For kids growing up in the 1980s, Saturday morning meant one thing: cartoons! There was no streaming, DVR, or on-demand television. Instead, kids would wake up early, grab a bowl of sugary cereal, and race to the television to watch their favorite Saturday morning cartoons.
The 1980s produced some of the most memorable animated shows of all time. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Thundercats, The Smurfs, Voltron, and The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles became childhood favorites. Each week brought new adventures, heroes, villains, catchy theme songs, and plenty of action.
Saturday mornings were also a major part of 80s toy culture. Many cartoons were connected to popular toy lines, and kids could watch their favorite characters on television before heading to the toy store to find them. It was the perfect combination of cartoons, commercials, and imagination.
Perhaps the best part was the tradition itself. Kids gathered around the TV in pajamas, often joined by brothers, sisters, or friends, while parents enjoyed a few quiet hours. There was something special about knowing that everyone was watching the same shows at the same time.
For today’s adults who grew up in the 80s, Saturday morning cartoons remain one of the fondest memories of childhood—a simpler time w`hen a television, a bowl of cereal, and a few hours of cartoons could turn an ordinary Saturday into an adventure.

Classic Saturday Morning cartoons were extremely popular in the 1980s. Children would sit and watch cartoons all Saturday morning until lunch time. They became so popular, some cartoons staring airing during Prime Time with holiday specials. Of course these cartoons starting selling merchandise, such as clothing, lunch boxes, back packs, posters and toys. And cereal boxes would include giveaways inside their boxes with your favorite cartoon characters.
